As a powerful spiritual force to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, patriotism is also a long tradition the Great Chinese nation. Patriotic education as an educational approach closely linked the nation, the ethnic and the individual. It is an important part of the ideological and political education. Effectively promote patriotic education can enhance national cohesion, promote national integration, build overall pattern of interests, and format a social situation which is stable and preoperational.In recent years, our patriotic education achieves positive results.patriotism becoming well-known and a strong patriotic fashion being popular in the whole society. However, as seeing our achievements, we are also faced with many new difficulties and challenges. With the deepening of the reform and opening up and the development of the society transition, we are in a multicultural, diverse and changing social pattern. In this case, a variety of thoughts appears, as an ideological trend in our society, they are challenging and constraining patriotic education to develop to a new height. By analyzing the impact of these social trends, this paper aims at clarifying how these social thoughts generate deeper impact on patriotic education, proposing some useful solutions to enhance the level of patriotic education.This article includes four parts. The first part introduces the social thoughts, focusing on the meaning, characteristics and types of them, and analyses the links and differences between social thought and patriotic education which provide background and basis for later discussion. The second part describes the meaning and the importance of patriotic education, highlighting the characteristics and objectives of patriotic education in the new era, and presents serious challenges the patriotism education facing. In part three, respectively, from nationalism, individualism, historical nothingness and new-liberalism, this article discusses their impacts on patriotic education. The last part, based on the analysis of the impact of education on patriotism, explores from how to strengthen patriotic education contents to how to improve patriotism education by grasp the principles and promoting the means of patriotic education.
