Study On The Performance And Transition Of Epic Manas Of Kirgiz Nationality In Xinjiang

The Epic Manas is one of the epics with the largest scale and longest length which could be found all over the world. It has long been spread orally among the folks of Kirgiz nationality. The Epic Manas, as a comprehensive artistic work, is consisted of language, intonation, gestures and imitation, which are all essential elements in every performance of it. The resonant voice, exaggerated expression and gestures of the epic performer Manasqi, accompanied by beautiful melodies, are very wonderful for people to appreciate and listen. The furious fighting spectacles and vivid descriptions of royal wedding ceremony can bring about a strong sense of satisfaction to the audiences both visually and aurally. The introduction part of this thesis introduces the practical significance, theoretical significance, research status, development tendency, research idea and methods of this study.The second part gives an introduction and historic origin of Epic Manas The third part talks about the situation of further on-the-spot investigation to the local folk artists and staffs of relevant departments in Kizilsu Kergez prefecture of Xinjiang for more information of the key characters in the Epic Manas. The forth part introduces the study on the performance of the performers of Epic Manas, such as Manasqi, including how they learned and performed, so that we can inherit the tradition and make innovations based on it. Stressing on their performances, an analysis of their gestures is also given in this part.The fifth part mainly discusses the transition of the performance of Epic Manas from its early oral performance on the grassland “stage” for more than a thousand year to today’s performance on the real stage.The sixth part discusses the protection and inheritance of Epic Manas...
