The epic Manas is well-known as China's Homeric Epic, and it is a biographical heroic epic of Kirgiz, and it is also an encyclopedia with Kirgiz language, history, folklore, religion, etc. The Mongolian epic Jungar, the Tibetan epic Gesar and Manas are called three famous heroic epics of ethnic minorities in China, and it is a historic book with important research value. In academies, domestic and foreign scholars have researched a lot from different subject perspective with Manas, which contains linguistics, strategy, philosophy, history, literature, etc. But there is not much research from the pedagogical perspective. The epic of the ethnic minorities is a cultural treasure of the entire Chinese Nation; it contains extensive and profound thought which makes it greatly significant to explore the educational thought in it.This paper is written by using documentary research method, mainly depends on the book Kirgiz Heroic Epic Manas, which was pressed by Xinjiang People's Publishing House in1991, sung by famous Manasqi Jusup Mamay, and translated by Liu Fajun, Zhumalayi and Shang Xijing. The paper makes deep analysis of the book using education related principles and thoughts. Chapter One analyzes the historical background, spread status and ways of spreading. Besides, it analyzes how the Manasqi performs and the inheritance. Chapter Two emphasizes on educational environment, including, family, battlefield and society, and discuss how these educational environment influence the people. Chapter Three mainly discusses the educational aims of Manas. Take Manas for the example, firstly, he has many good qualities such as be brave and skillful in battle, and be witty, merciful, fair and honest, loyal and trustworthy, respecting the old and loving the young; secondly, as an actually history people, Manas also has many shortcomings; finally, we get the conclusion that the educational aims of epics are to educate people who develop from all-round way that could adapt to the society. Chapter Four is the core section of the paper, mainly discusses the educational contents of the epic Manas, from moral education, aesthetic education, military education and physical education, etc. The fourth chapter emphasizes on the moral education, which including patriotism education thought, national unity education thought, religious education thought, etiquette education thought and ethics education thought. In aesthetic education aspect, the content and method of aesthetic education as the point of penetration, the content of the aesthetic education is to shaping beauty of appearance and heart of heroic figures, and tragic beauty in artist effect of Manas. The method of aesthetic education in Manas is reflected in rhetoric of comparison, metaphor and hyperbole. In military education, the paper mainly discusses from three aspects:strategy and tactics, military management and spirit of war. Chapter Five is mainly about the educational method of Manas, including line of reasoning method, model demonstration method, emotional edify method, self education method and assessment method.The paper is always focuses on the central point, that the education in the epic is generalized. The educational thought is not only in the story, but also in the epic itself, as a kind of carrier of material civilization, for the heroic figure of high personal quality sets an example for the other people in the story. The epic itself is a good educational text, because it educates the ordinary people through Manasqi's performance. This is a kind of recessive education; it is contained in the epic itself and the performance processing.Through analyzing the educational thought of Manas, and combining the current education situation and some problems together, this paper tries to find some inspiration and reference in modern times. The paper finally puts forward views and suggestions from two aspects, that is, education should promote the all-round development of the human and the epic of ethnic minority should be taught in the local classroom.
