The translation material is entitled The Gendered Society, which is written by Michael Kimmel and the first edition was published by Oxford University Press in2000 and the fourth published in 2011. “The Gendered Family” in chapter six is translated by the translator from page 172 to 193, totaling more than ten thousand words. The book illustrates two world’s most influential topics: gender difference and social gender inequality. Chapter six that was translated by the translator elaborates six problems: the problem of fatherlessness, divorce, child custody, gay and lesbian families, family violence and the family of the future. The Gendered Society which is a social science academic work is mainly of an informative text with expressiveness included. The translation strategy that the translator adopted is mainly the communicative translation strategy, supplemented by the semantic translation strategy under the guidance of the Text Type Theory put forward by Peter Newmark. The translator uses literal translation, free translation, inversion, division and other translation methods to translate the text. The report consists of five parts: translation task, translation process, theoretical framework, case analysis and the summary of this translation practice.
