This translation report is based on the Chinese-English translation work of Mutual-cultures of China’s Northwestern Ethnic Minorities and Western Development Drive(Section Two, Chapter Four), which was written by Professor Zhou Weizhou(2009). With the implementation of China’s western development drive and the sustained deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative, the exploration of development and change of mutual-cultures of China’s northwestern ethnic minorities on the occasion of China’s western development drive have built up a platform for the spreading of Chinese culture to the outside world, and have also provided an unprecedented pivot for more people to get to know and accept the northwestern ethnic minorities’ cultures. Therefore, this translation work may be a reference for foreign experts who involve themselves in or are interested in multi-cultures of China’s northwestern ethnic minorities. Meanwhile, as one part of China’s Cultural Translation Project, the translation work is of great significance to spreading multi-cultures of northwestern ethnic minorities. The report includes five parts: Chapter I is basic information about the translation project, including its content, background, purpose and significance; Chapter II is translation procedures, including pre-translating preparation, translating process and post-translating work; Chapter III is description of theoretical bases, which includes dynamic equivalence theory and strategies of domestication and foreignization;Chapter IV is analysis of specific cases in the process of translating; Chapter V is summary, which consists of acquisition and reflection of the whole translation process. When translating the source text of informative type, the translator follows the guidance of dynamic equivalence theory proposed by Eugene A. Nida, and adopts the strategies of domestication and foreignization. In order to present information of source text while making the translation text understandable for target language readers, the translator employs the specific methods to deal with the translation work, such as conversion, recasting and transliteration, etc. In this report, the application of translation theory, strategies and methods will be illustrated by examples at four levels of lexicon, sentence, discourse and culture. There is no doubt that the transformation of cultures and sentence structures is not quite easy during Chinese-English translation process. In the process of this translation work, the translator realizes that different types of texts should follow different translation theories and different translation strategies. She needs to try her best to make an accurate presentation of source language’s culture and minimize the cultural differences, in order to make a smooth and faithful translation text with natural expressions. By doing this, the translation text can reach the dynamic equivalence to the source text.
