| With the impressive development of global economic and the improvement of China’s social status, China has aroused the attention of other countries all over the world. The communication and contacts between China and western countries are becoming more and more frequent. Communication emphasizes exchange of information. However, it is the News that plays a very important role in culture and information exchange. Accordingly, news translation plays a great significant role in the exchange of news information.Since news has such characteristics as timeliness, importance, prominence, locality and interest, concrete, precise, concise, easy to understand and active, cross-cultural news translation is required to not only maintain these characteristics, but also correctly express the meaning of the original information, which makes news translation facing with great difficulties. It is also a great challenge to every translator. Therefore, an effective translation theory is needed to guide the practice of the news translation.German functionalism translation master Hans J. Vermeer puts forward three rules of Skopostheorie, which include the skopos rule, the coherent rule and the fidelity rule. They are of great importance for guiding news translation.With the guidance of Skopostheorie and knowledge of the characteristics of news language in vocabulary and syntax, this paper discusses news translation from English to Chinese. The paper concentrates on different methods applied in the news translation. Based on Skopostheorie and English news characteristics, the author gives concrete examples to discuss how those methods are used. Finally it draws a conclusion that Skopostheorie can guide the news translation from English to Chinese and point out the experience and gains. Hopefully, this is a well worthy practice. |
