This is a translation report on The Submission by Amy Waldman, from which I chose Chapter One as my source text. This report is divided into four parts: Part one is the description of the translation task including the reason why I choose the text as my graduate translation and the source text. I introduced the source text including the author, the book and the features of text. Part two is to introduce my translation process including preparations and problems and difficulties in translation. There are seven problems in all on how to translate psychological description, portrait description, dialogues, scenery description, some typical words and phrases under the cultural shock, the title——The Submission and Muslim language. Part three is about strategies used to solve the problems in translation and case studies. The strategies adopted in my translation to solve the problems are domestication and foreignization, literal translation and free translation including the skills of amplification, omission, division and combination, and creative treason. Then I selected many examples to do the case studies on problems and difficulties in translation process. Part four summarizes unsolved problems and what I have learned from this translation project. |
