This translation practice report, based on the translation of a literary theory text with the title of “Ecology and Esthetics Robinson Jeffers and Gary Snyder”,mainly conducts some research on the way to achieve functional equivalence in the translation of literary theory texts.During the process of this translation, this report has adopted Nida's functional equivalence theory into translation practice in terms of “vocabulary equivalence”,“sentence equivalence” and “discourse equivalence”.Firstly, this report introduces the background of the task, the main points of the article and the translation theory.Secondly, the comprehension and expression of the original text in the process of translation are illustrated, and the translation difficulties as well as their corresponding solutions are described one by one.Additionally, this report introduces the functional equivalence theory, the way to achieve functional equivalence in the translation as well as translation strategies or skills to be employed for achieving functional equivalence. Thanks to this translation practice research, the author of this report has learned about characteristics of literary theory text translation and its relevant translation strategies.Meanwhile, the author is convinced of the importance of translation theories in the process of translation practice. At the end of the report, the author sums up the deficiencies of this practice and expresses the prospect of future research in this field.
