Based on the translation of Chapter Five and Eleven excerpted from Cultural Studies, a textbook about social science, the report presents the translation task, translation process and translation summary and unsolved problem in details. It consists of four parts. Part one elaborates on the work object, the commissioner’s requirement and the work’s implementation with some translation tools and resources included; Part two indicates the source text falls into the social science category and analyzes its features at grammatical and lexical levels such as a strong tendency of nominalization and nonfinite verbs; Part three is the core of the report, analyzing cases under the theoretical framework of Grammatical Metaphor and three translation strategies while also raising the question of websites translation; Part four gives the translator’s reflections, proposing that a qualified translator should be equipped with software and hardware, and names some other strategies used in translation but not analyzed in the report. |
