With the number of netizens continuously growing, network buzzwords are mushrooming. As a special phenomenon of language and culture, Chinese network buzzwords from English mix western and eastern elements and reflect imprints of cultural exchanges.Previous researches of network buzzwords focus on the classifications, morphological structures, pragmatic and cultural characteristics. However, they have paid less attention to communication research of them. Network buzzwords can be treated as signs, and encoding and decoding activities are contained in communication, so we can explore the communication of network buzzwords from perspectives of the encoding and decoding.The author treats Chinese network buzzwords from English as language signs; they originate from the English language and widely spread in Chinese network environment. Materials and data of network buzzwords in this research are collected from relevant books and websites. The author analyzes the materials and data in inductive and deductive methods, and mainly explores the encoding ways, the decoding position and some motivation factors that influence the communication of network buzzwords.This research mainly designs the following four questions:1. In which ways do people usually encode Chinese network buzzwords from English in encoding activities?2. What are the common points and differences between encoding and decoding activities?3. In which positions do audiences decode the network buzzwords in decoding activities?4. What are the main motivation factors that influence the communication of the network buzzwords?The results of the research show that:1. The encoding ways of Chinese network buzzwords from English are similar to common methods of word-formation, such as homophony, combining, abbreviation, and clipping, etc.2. Similar meaning construction factors are the main common points, and factors relating to the activity subjects are the main differences.3. Audiences are mainly in negotiated position; 4. The motivation factors are multiply, and social, cultural and psychological factors influence the communication of buzzwords.This research helps people have a better understanding of the Chinese network buzzwords from English, provide some ideas for exploring the communication study of network buzzwords, and it broadens the horizons of loanwords, language and culture.
