Economic globalization promotes urbanization, the latter has brought the competition among cities. This competition is not only reflected in such aspects as politics, economy and culture, but also in the construction of city image to promote city brands. Correspondingly, many cities are changing to the green, image characteristics from the traditional industrial manufacturing. However, a complete system of city image design has not formed under the construction of ZhengZhou urban image up to now. Therefore, an important practical significance exists in the research on the visual image of ZhengZhou city.The urban image and visual symbols are explained in depth from the perspective of visual communication on the theories of semiotics and so on in the paper. On this basis, the image positioning of ZhengZhou city is established,considering her historical and cultural development, urban image characteristics and public impression. Further,elements of visual symbols are refined from the perspective of the historical, cultural and ecological. In response to the problems existing in the application of visual symbols to ZhengZhou urban image, the corresponding solutions are given. Meanwhile, three design ideas are put forward, namely, respecting the history cultural heritage, embodying the spirit of ZhengZhou city and being more creative. According to the design idea and design method, the visual symbol image design is made. In the end, three different schemes of ZhengZhou city core logo design are fulfilled,further one of the three schemes is chosen and its aided graphic design of ZhengZhou city logo is completed.This research helps to promote the construction of ZhengZhou city visual symbol system, and shape ZhengZhou city special image.
