The Research On Character Designing In The Chinese Textbooks

Interest plays an important role in learning. It is an important driving factor to improve the enthusiasm and quality of learning. The interesting Chinese textbooks are of great significance to the teaching of Chinese as a second language, especially for the students who are in the entry period. And the text as the most important component of the Chinese textbooks, it is interesting or not, for the primary foreign language teaching has a very profound impact. Interesting text can effectively attract students’ interest, stimulate students’ learning motivation, fully explore the students’ intelligence factors, strengthen the teaching effect, and improve the teaching efficiency.The writer conducts a research on the character designing of the textbooks for elementary Chinese, hopes to provide a new idea for the preparation of Chinese textbooks. By using literature and statistics method to two sets of junior Chinese textbook <learn Chinese with me> and <Happy Chinese>, two sets of adult Chinese <Boya Chinese>and <New practical Chinese>to summarizing and analyzing the present situation of character designing in the Elementary Chinese Textbooks. I also designed questionnaires and asked 50 Chinese teachers to participate in the survey, in addition to 35 students in China, 30 middle school students from Indonesia and South Korea participate in a questionnaire survey as well. The purpose of this questionnaire is to get students’ and teachers’ suggestions on the design of characters in the Chinese textbooks. This paper also studies the famous English textbooks Family Album USA, the main characters in this book each have their own stories, and they have distinct personality, which is propounding. Through the research and discussion of the design of the characters in this book, from which to obtain the reference value. On the basis of this, give some advices on character designing. I hope this can be useful in Chinese text writing. And appeal the editors can put more attention on the design of characters and give a more open vision to this. I hope this idea can help teachers to teach and help students to learn.
