In the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,we find that many learners have the problem of "illiterate words".The main reason is that vocabulary teaching has been the main method in teaching Chinese as a foreign language for a long time,and the positive role of Chinese characters and their meanings in Chinese teaching is not paid enough attention to.Therefore,we think that we should not only attach importance to vocabulary teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,but also base on the characteristics of Chinese itself and attach importance to the teaching of Chinese characters and their meanings.This paper takes the 300 characters of the lowest level word-list as the research object,analyzes the compilation of the Chinese characters and their meanings in elementary Chinese character textbooks,summarizes their reference and existing problems,and puts forward some suggestions for improvement in view of their existing problems,in order to arouse more researchers,textbook compilers and teachers of Chinese as a foreign language to pay more attention to Chinese characters and their meanings,and to do more thinking and research on them.In this paper,at first,300 Chinese characters of the Lowest Level Word-List and their meanings are statistically analyzed.It is found that the Chinese characters are mainly pictophonetic characters and monosyllabic characters,and the original or extended meanings of most Chinese characters are generally used meaning in modern Chinese.Secondly,taking "Chinese Characters for Beginners" and "Learning Chinese Characters from MS.Zhang" as the object of investigation,this paper statistics and analyzes the selection and compilation of Chinese characters of the Lowest Level Word-List and their meanings in the two sets of textbooks,so as to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of them.Thirdly,it compares and analyzes the selection and compilation of Chinese characters of the Lowest Level Word-List and their meanings in the two sets of textbooks,and summarizes the characteristics of the them.Finally,on the basis of statistics and analysis,this paper summarizes the reference and existing problems of the textbooks for the compilation of Chinese characters of the Lowest Level Word-List and their meanings,and puts forward some suggestions for improving them in two aspects:first,in the selection and arrangement of Chinese characters and their meanings,the textbooks should pay attention to the selection and compilation of typical Chinese characters in combination with the knowledge of the four character-building methods.When selecting and compiling the meaning of words,we should fully consider the characteristics and learning needs of the applicable objects of the textbooks,pay attention to follow the law of gradual and orderly progress,and pay attention to the differences and relations between Chinese characters and words,the meaning of characters and words,and so on.Secondly,in the aspect of Chinese character interpretation,the textbooks should pay attention to the accuracy and simplicity of the interpretation,choose the appropriate interpretation method according to the characteristics of the character,and improve the interpretation effect.
