A Comparison And Study Of Teaching Materials For Sheng

Among the Chinese national musical instruments, many instruments have their own abundant learning materials. While the course construction of Sheng is late a lot, especially the diversified textbook construction is lacking. Consequently, the author reads the existing Sheng textbooks carefully, and during the process of reading thinks a lot. Among the existing published Sheng textbooks, the content, the perspective of writing, and the usage of the textbooks varies widely. The author chooses four representative textbooks, and tries to study and compare them to find out the characteristic worth learning and developing, as well as the deficiencies which can be improved during the process of compiling textbooks, at the same time, ties to clarify the thought of textbook construction and development of Sheng------the instrument with the history of more than three thousand years. It is hoped that the subsequent compilers can try harder and more rigorous in compiling Sheng textbooks so that our national instrument Sheng can have a better inheritance and development.
