Study On Gu Yanwu's Ancient Phonology Of Ru Sheng With -k Tail

Gu Yanwu was a celebrated scholar in late Ming and early Qing Dynasty .He had a lot of gigantic achievement in philosophy, classics, history and ancient Chinese linguistics. As a celebrated scholar, Gu Yanwu was respeceted as"the founder of ancient Chinese linguistics in qing dynasty". Gu Yanwu's theory of Ru sheng match Yin sheng, method of analyse Tang Yun ,and the ten parts of ancient phonology were praised by other scholars until today. Gu Yanwu's achievement of ancient phonology embody in his book Yin Xue Wu Shu .This book had great attribution in ancient phonology of Qing Dynasty and gains highly praise in academic study. Gu Yanwu againsted Xie Yun thoroughly from theory to methods, and his study established the foundation of ancient phonology. The method of analyse Tang Yun that classified ancient phonology for ten parts be known as the model of similar aspects. Gu Yamwu and his theory created the new field in ancient phonology of Qing Dynasty. Almost the all scholars of Qing Dynasty who birthed after Gu Yanwu affected by Gu's theory, and many of them got inspiration from Gu's ten parts of ancient phonology.Gu Yanwu and his book Yin Xue Wu Shu not only created the new field in ancient phonology of Qing Dynasty, but also provided valuable experience for today's study. As all to know, Gu Yanwu's contributions of ancient phonology were the theory of Ru sheng match Yin sheng and a set of system's established what based on textology .But we think Gu's mainly achievement of ancient phonology was his study on Ru sheng(entering tone) . Gu Yanwu analyse Tang Yun, classified all types of Ru sheng yun for four parts. Some Ru sheng yun were divided into two branches, such as Wu (屋), Wo (沃), Jue (觉), Yao (药), Duo (铎) ect. Gu Yanwu analyse 25 types of Ru sheng yun ,and matched Yin sheng yun. Gu's study on Ru sheng especially the kind of Ru sheng with–k tail, left huge influence in latter scholars'study. Jiang Yong, Duan Yucai, Jiang Yougao and other scholars accepted Gu's partition of Ru sheng .Although Gu's Ru sheng match Yin sheng had some mistakes in it's details , his contributions on ancient phonology would be remembered forever. Summarized the results of recent years what study on Gu Yanwu and his achievement of ancient phonology, we found that scholars'research rarely focused on Gu Yanwu's four parts of Ru sheng especially the kind of Ru sheng with–k tail. But lots of materials showed that Gu's contributions of classified Ru sheng were very important to ancient phonology of Qing Dynasty. In the essay, we try to analyse some characters of Ru sheng yun , and all the characters we selected from Tang Yun Zheng , it's one part of Gu's book Yin Xue Wu Shu. We would mainly discussed and classified ten characters with–k tail, these characters were: Wu (屋), Wo (沃), Zhu (烛), Jue (觉), Yao (药), Duo (铎), Mo (陌), Mai (麦), Xi (昔), Xi (锡). In our analyse of the ten characters, we found that nine in ten of these characters divided into two branches, just only Wu (屋) divided into three branches. Gu Yanwu's precise analyse of Ru sheng yun with–k tail got highly praise from scholars of Qing Dynasty, such as Duan Yucai, Dai Zhen, Jiang Yougao,ect. And many scholars of Qing Dynasty study Ru sheng and its classified almostl benifited from Gu Yanwu's theories.
