| Mr Pan Yu Tong is one of Malaysia’s most distinguished literary fiction writers. He was born in multiracial Malaysia with his upbringing during British colonial time. As such, he crossed two eras over the transition. Mr Pan is also the first generation of Malaysian students studied in Taiwan; then he furthered his study in the United States. These cultural differences he experienced became an impact to his novels reflecting his life course and perception of human complexity. After returning to Malaysia, he engaged himself in agricultural research as well as time amateur in literature. By nature of his job, Mr Pan stayed and worked in rainforest which provided him unlimited idea and writing material. Naturally, what was seen, heard and experienced by him in the forest become an important part of his ecological literature work. Cutting down trees tremendously in the forest created a looted dilemma to the aborigines and threaten the survival of indigenous peoples. Feeling of concern and aspiration were frequently seen in his written work. This thesis is attempting to study and understand Mr. Pan Yu Tong’s true feeling towards this issue by analyzing his literature works.This thesis was composed in five parts as below:The first part is the introduction of Mr Pan Yu Tong’s background and biography; and also the early part of his life.The second part mainly deals with his worry, concern and frustration over dilemma of rainforest destruction. He makes his green writing job as a social responsibility which reflects his compassion and humanity.The third part focuses on artistic characteristic and theme implication of his novels. On this basis, we further analyze language, narration, personal impression of his literature and his writing style that constitutes to a remarkable characteristic of his novels. His unique visual, personalized points and lyrical way of writing depicts the rainforest phenomena and its "imagery" that enhance the aesthetic value of his novels too.The fourth part mainly probe on the environmental awareness of Mr. Pan Yu Tong towards rainforest and his compassion and criticism towards its destruction by human being. He loves and treasures nature, the contradiction between human and nature being shown frequently in his novels and essays, his lyrical script reflect his concern and aspiration.The last part is an overall review and exploration of the inherent sense of urgency of Mr Pan Yu Tong and the Malaysian Chinese writer Mr He Nai Jian reflected in their ecological literature. By having the same faith and concept between man and nature, both firmly believe human can never over rule nature and nature will retaliate by disaster on human being one day. Their ecological literary works have shown affection towards his home village. We can clearly feel their deep love towards the nature. Through their works, both express their helplessness and aspiration.However, due to job requirement, Mr Pan Yu Tong is often exposed to forest cutting and burning for land reclamation. Obviously, this resulted in forest destruction and so was the nature. The contradiction and ambivalence between job and affection towards nature could be clearly seen in his novels. His use of surreal ghost legends and super natural power to express mysterious vagaries of the forest bring sensory stimulation to readers. By his rich imagination and vivid natural imagery, his literature depicting impact of human activities on natural ecology. By reading the ecological literature of Mr Pan Yu Tong referring and excerpting rhetoric and evaluation of other senior writer and scholar; we are ascertained of his unique artistic expression in his ecological literature and fully appreciate its value and significance of his literary works.Mr Pan Yu Tong’s outstanding literary works has contributed to Malaysian Chinese literature with unique and profound significance. Last but not least, we sincerely hope this study could help to inspire and motivate the ecological literature of Malaysian Chinese.
