Over the past30years, although the Chinese eco-literature has achieved remarkable development and made great progress, one of the literary critics pointed out,"Chinese eco-literature has not even formed a trend, let alone a genre ", not yielding some outstanding eco-literature works which become prominent in the world eco-literature. On the basis of this situation, I intend to explore and figure out the objective and subjective reasons why Chinese eco-literature is not flourishing, as well as the deficiency in eco-literature literary texts, by means of combing China eco-literature history for the past three decades and close reading for the specific literary texts during this process. Aiming at making more people concern about Chinese eco-literature and its present perplexing existence, I expect that my research fruit could bring some enlightenment for thoughts and faith for spirits in this realm. Radically, I hope my study could enhance the pubic awareness for ecological environment and motivate people's involvement for environmental protection so as to alleviate the current ecological crisis as well as create the ecological civilization. This thesis is comprised of the following five chapters except for the preface and the epilogue. The first chapter probes into the accomplishments of Chinese eco-literature in the past three decades, along with the analysis for its insufficiency via discovering the roots of Chinese eco-literature development and exploring its evolving track. The second chapter mainly reflects on the current situation of water loss and soil erosion and its relevant reasons, presenting the strengths and weaknesses in the depiction of land in Chinese eco-literature works for past three decades. The research in this part is carried out by the in-depth analysis on some Chinese eco-literature works, such as the prose collection "After The Sun Rises" by Wei An, the reportage "The Anxiety of Land" by Wang Zhian and the novel "The Soilless Times" by Zhao Benfu. The third chapter explores the reasons for the deterioration in China's ecology of grassland, indicating the ecological thoughts and its limitation through comprehending the description of grassland in the relative eco-literature works. Detailed text-analysis, such as Zhang Kangkang's novelette "The Sandstorm ", Jiang Rong's novel " Wolf Totem " and Guo Xuebo's novel " Silvery Fox ", embody this understanding. The fourth chapter analyzes the eco-literature texts regarding the forest illustration to figure out the current situation and its reasons for serious deforestation in our country, showing the writers'concern and worries as well as the achievements and shortcomings in their writing. The research in this part was attained by studying eco-literature works, such as Xu Gang's reportage "The Woodcutter, Wake up!", Gao Xingjian's drama " The Savage ", and Jing Fu's novel " The Deer's Cry ". The fifth chapter interprets the eco-literature works in the past three decades concerning the description of ecological situation in China's western region, with the purpose of understanding the writer's philosophical thoughts in ecology. The research is carried out by analyzing the works like Yang Zhijun's novelette "The Collapse of Qinghai Lake ", Xue Mo's novel "Hunting Field" and Du Guanghui's novel "the Wolvcs of the Hoh Xil ". Additionally, the preface explains the cause, the aim, the structure and the research methods of this thesis. Meanwhile, the epilogue states the fruits of the thesis and my aspiration for this theme. As far as the research method is concerned, the study tries to intermingle some concepts of eco-philosophy, eco-ethics and eco-criticism, incorporating them in the close-reading and in-depth analysis on the concrete eco-literature texts. Integrated the text interpretation with the theoretical statement, the tedious theoretical conception turns into one organic part of the vivid text analysis. Ultimately, the text reading becomes the key or the catalyst on comprehending and interpreting the theory.
