This translation report is based on my translation of Translation/history/culture(P71-P105),a source book about translation edited by famous Belgium translation theorist Andre Lefevere. As a key to the door of essence of literary translation, it introduces many important thoughts in translation study from 106.B.C to 1931.The book plays an indispensable role in exploring translation rules and principles from the perspective of culture. The source texts of this report mainly discuss about translation rules and principles in the process of translating classic works which represent core values of some culture. As for the translation of these classic works, the book probes into the influential factors such as history, ideology, social culture, etc. What I present is the summary of main problems encountered at the word and sentence levels as well as the corresponding strategies and skills adopted in the translation process from the perspective of theories such as dynamic translation, translation shift, skopos theory, and English-Chinese contrast study. The main body of this report is made up of four parts. The first part is task description that includes introduction of the book, the author and an analysis of the source text. The significance of this translation work is also revealed briefly. The second part is process description which consists of preparations before translation, process of translating and quality control. The third part is case analyses, which include types of problems encountered in the translation practice as well as the theoretic thoughts. Part four is a summary of difficulties and inspirations from the translation practice.
