A Report On E-C Translation Of “SmartAds: Bringing Contextual Ads To Mobile Apps”

The translation report is based on translation of a sci-tech paper “SmartAds: Bringing the Contextual Ads to Mobile Apps”. It is a sci-tech paper communicated in MobiSys’ 13, and then collected in Proceeding of the 11 th Annual International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications, and Services by Mobisys’ 13 Conference Committee. MobiSys is the world’s top academic conference in wireless networking and mobile computing system. Papers submitted to MobiSys are about newest technologies, which are more influential than that in periodicals.A sci-tech paper has its unique pattern and style. After a thorough analysis of the source text, the author of the report completed translation under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory and Newmark’s communicative translation strategy.The translation report consists of five parts: The first part is an introduction to the background and significance of sci-tech translation and the report, and a brief description of the content of the report. The second part Task Description is about source of translation task, analysis of the source text and requirements from the entrusting party. The third part and the forth part are the essence of the report. The third part Translation Process includes preparation before translation, process description during translation and evaluation after translation. Then the forth part is Translation Analysis, which mainly focuses on analyzing translation of terms, passive voice, long and complicated sentences. The fifth part is Conclusion, which sums up what the translator is done in the report, makes brief reflection in the aspects of source text, translation and translator herself and gives suggestions to students of Master of Translation and Interpreting for their translation report writing.Report has shown that when translating documents of science and technology, especially translating sci-tech papers, the translator should focus on the accuracy of information, the standardization and consistency of terms, and his/her accumulation of professional knowledge. The author hopes the report be available to the translation of documents of science and technology and to students’ translation report writing of Master of Translation and Interpreting.
