As one of the most crucial resources for agriculture, soil is regarded as a central aspect for research in agriculture, and soil science is a frontal field in science and technology in China. Many researches on soil science are published on foreign periodicals in English to enhance international scientific interaction. In order to help relevant researchers and policy-makers to gain the latest information in this field, the translator participated in the translation project of translating two academic papers on soil science published in foreign journals. The academic paper on soil science has the feature of academic paper and English scientific paper, which contains technical terms, abbreviation, nominalization, the passive sentences,as well as the complicated sentences. To achieve the purpose of helping researchers and policy-makers engaged in agricultural resources protection to keep abreast of the up-to-date findings, the Relevance Theory is chosen to guide whole translation process. The report first conducted an analysis of language style and feature of the selected papers besides a description on several parts covering pre-translation,glossary-making,project schedule in while-translation and proofreading in post-translation.Then,brief introduction of the Relevance Theory and previous application of the theory to translation are introduced to demonstrate its feasibility to guide this translation task. This report finally conducts a case analysis to illustrate how translation goal is achieved and how translation difficulties are solved at lexical level, syntactic level and textual level from the perspective of the Relevance Theory. The report explores some helpful strategies and techniques concerning sci-tech academic paper translation, which is expected to bring a new vision and offer some reference for future translation study in related field.
