Character is the soul of the novel. It isn`t a good novel without full and vivid characters. The Russian writer Nikolai Gogol depicts a series of greedy foolish landlords and corrupt officials in his representative work "Dead souls",through these typical images profoundly revealed the darkness and decay in Russian society at that time. Belinsky had high praised it as the epoch-making masterpiece in the Russian literature. The different characters of the original work not only have a very high aesthetic value, but also have important research significance, therefore the research for their artistic aesthetic value from at home and abroad has never stopped. The " Dead souls " has multiple versions in the world, among them there are more than ten kinds of Chinese translation versions.This thesis mainly uses two Chinese translation versions as the research object,one is published in 1983 and written by Man tao and Xu Qing dao,the other is published in 1995 and written by Chen Dian xing and Liu Guangqi, the thesis compares the two translation versions on how to reproduce the aesthetic value of the characters. The translators of the two traslations in the process of translation flexibly adopted different translation methods in order to reappear the aestheticion.In this paper the introduction part mainly introduced the research purpose and research significance, the present situation of the domestic and foreign research, in addition to the research methods of the domestic andforeign.The text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter presents the aesthetic problems in translation aesthetics, including to represent the form and content of the aesthetice value in literary translation and the basic mains of aesthetic reappearance;The second chapter compares the aesthetic reappearance of the images in the two Chinese translations of the "Dead souls" from the perspective of aesthetic reappearance, mainly from the portrait, personalized language of characters, character psychology, Scenery description and objects;The thirdchapter analysis the influencing factors of two translation, including the subjectivity of the translator in literary translation, different writting styles of the translator’s in translation, and being familiar with the Russian culture.In last part of the summary, This paper uses literature research, close reading and comparison method, by comparing the two translations of “Dead souls”,translators Man tao and Chen dian xing,whether reproduce the aesthetic information of original images or not. Research suggests that, Man`s translation has fluent writing with beautiful language, and it`s easy to understand., in terms of "close to the original", the translation of tao is obviously better than the translation Chen Dianxing, It`s not only in the content, thought, style, artistic features, and in language form, phrasing but also strive to maximize be close to the original, is both content and the form of the original representation of rare.And relative to the full translation from two aspects of form and content, both to reproduce the beauty of the original, Chen translation largely tend to faithfully in content, and to a certain extent, neglected the aesthetic reproduction of the original...
