A Study Of C-C Translation Of Tour Commentary From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

Tour commentary is tour guides’ interpretation during the sightseeing and also tour guides’ tool to exchange ideas with visitors and spread culture and knowledge to them. The C-E translation of tour commentary has great significance for propagandizing the scenic spots, inspiring tourists’ desire for sightseeing and promoting the healthy development of foreign-oriented tourism. This thesis, based on adaptation theory proposed by Verschueren, taking the tour commentaries of eight famous scenic spots in Hunan Province as examples, tries to achieve adaptation at all levels of language during C-E translation of tour commentary, to reveal the guiding significance of adaptation theory for C-E translation of tour commentaries of eight famous scenic spots in Hunan Province and to explore a new way to translate tour commentary from Chinese into English.This thesis is made up of five parts:introduction, conclusion and three chapters. Introduction focuses on the definition of tour commentary, the current situation and problems of C-E translation of tour commentary in China; the first chapter introduces adaptation theory proposed by Verschueren and its guidance for the translation of tour commentary; the second chapter conducts an analysis on the textual features of the tour commentaries of Hunan Province and assumes that the tour commentary has three characteristics:parataxis, gorgeous writing style and affectionate description; the third chapter discusses the application of adaptation theory to C-E translation of tour commentary of eight famous scenic spots in Hunan from three aspects:language structure, the social context of target tourists and the mental world of target tourists; conclusion summarizes the main idea of the whole thesis.
