A Report On C-E Translation Of Tour Commentary Of Pingshan Lake Valley In Zhangye City, Gansu Province

Zhangye is an important city in the ancient Silk Road,and its tourism industry has greatly promoted economic development.In order to further publicize and introduce Pingshan Lake Valley,a 4A-level tourist attraction in Zhangye City,this report takes the tour commentary of Pingshan Lake valley as the translation material,and analyses the translation strategies of translating the tour commentary into English.This report is divided into five parts: introduction,task description,translation process,the case analysis and conclusion.At first,the report describes the background and significance of this translation task,then analyses the source text from the language structure and context and presents the requirements from entrusting party.Before translation,the translator collects relevant background information,chooses translation tools and resources,parallel texts,translation theory,translation strategies,translation methods and skills,and formulates translation plans and glossary.In the mid translation,parallel texts and translation theory are mainly used to control the quality of translated version.After translation,the translation task is evaluated by the translator and entrusting party.The case analysis is the core of this report.Guided by Verschueren's Adaptation Theory and based on languages and cultures of western countries and Chinese,the case analysis analyses literal translation,free translation,transliteration,combination,division and paraphrase in domestication and foreignization strategies from the perspectives of language structure(phonetics,words,sentences)and contextual structure(physical world,social world and mental world).Finally,the report holds that bilingual tour commentary is crucial to the development of tourism.The selection of translation theory,the translator's information retrieval ability,a strong sense of responsibility and professional ethics are of great significance to translation practice.Besides,universities should set up the translation courses of tour commentary so as to improve the translator's professional level.Also,translators should constantly read various books to broaden their horizons and develop the ability of lifelong learning.
