A Report On The Translation Project Of American XX Company Website

With the development of information technology and the popularity and rapid application of international Internet, many companies have established their own website and company website has become a new platform for business operation and image promotion. Company website documents have become the common objects of translation tasks. Such documents often consist of middle or small-scale translation projects which require an individual or a small team to accomplish. The quality of their translation often influences the aspects such as the understanding of the website and the construction of company image.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of American XX Company Website. In view of the length (10,335 Chinese characters) and the time limit (5 days), this task is performed by the author. By reviewing and analyzing the translation process as well as representative cases, the author mainly discusses two aspects in small-scale translation projects of such documents:how to ensure quality and speed through pre-translational preparations and procedure management and how to achieve precision and communicative goals by translation strategies and skills with the guidance of Skopos Theory.In this translation task, the author finishes the translation through the steps such as translating, proofreading, sorting, editing and quality controlling. Also the author attaches great importance to the efficiency and quality control in the translating process, speeds up the translating through daily routine proofreading and revision, finds out and solves the problems timely, ensures the increasing improvement of translation quality so as to obtain excellent translation. The author presents the Skopos Theory, analyzes the features of the source text and designs translation procedures according to the characteristics of such a small-scale project. In the translation process, the author adopts the strategies and skills like supplementation, omission, rewriting, substitution and sentence reconstruction which are shown in case studies. In addition, the author tries to satisfy the client’s expectations by maintaining communication during the entire process, reporting progress frequently, pointing out ambiguous expressions in the source text and providing solutions for the client’s selection.The report reveals that a translator should have a comprehensive understanding of translation involved in multiple industries and monitor orderly every aspect of the project so as to take a comprehensive view of the representation of the source text, the satisfaction of the readers’ expectations and the safeguarding of the client’s interests.By analyzing and summarizing the report, the author hopes that it offers some referential value for the translation of documents of similar types or for the language processing.
