| This paper is a project report on the Chinese-English translation of the materials of the Thailand Section from the 12th China-ASEAN Expo SME Cross-border Investment and Trade Cooperation Conference. The translation project was entrusted by Nanning Allies Translation Co., Ltd., and the target readers are the attendees of the Conference. As a non-literature work, the project contains the texts of investment attraction and company profiles which belong to the economic publicity-oriented materials. It mainly introduces the particular business forms of SMEs, and environment, economic advantages and policies of Thailand, which is a new field of practical translation to the author.The project report takes Skopos theory of the Functionalist Translation Theory as the guideline of the translation strategies. In this report, the translation process of the pre-translation, translation and post-translation stages is described, mainly covering the steps of text analysis, preparations, quality control and client’s feedback. Meanwhile, the translation strategies of the texts of investment attraction and company profiles are deeply discussed. With Skopos theory, the report analyzes and studies typical translation difficulties, including translation of terminology and proper nouns, translation of titles and achievements, and translation of catchwords. Effective solution to and strategies of the typical translation difficulties are provided so as to offer some reference in related translations.With the whole translation practice of the project recorded, the report concludes specific translation strategies and methods of texts of investment attraction and company profiles, and also sums up relevant translating experience. It is hoped that the report could offer referential precedents to the similar translation projects in the future. |
