On The Ouality-improving Strategies Of Conference Consecutive Interpreting

As communications on economy, politics, culture, science and technology are increasingly internationalized, the demand for communication among people with different languages and cultures grows rapidly. Therefore, there is a growing need for interpreters who play an important role in communicating and understanding. Meanwhile, with the progress of the society, the requirements for interpreters are more and more strict.Conference Interpreting is different from Liaison Interpreting. It usually takes place in more formal occasions, therefore, its requirements to interpreters are stricter. The paper centers on Consecutive Interpreting, one mode often adopted in Conference Interpreting. The corpus used in the paper is from the writer’s field work, and it is analyzed to discover the factors affecting the quality of Conference Consecutive Interpreting, and then to summarize the strategies which could help to improve the quality of Conference Consecutive Interpreting. After studying, the writer comes up with three factors that affect the quality of Conference Consecutive Interpreting. They are the factors of the interpreter, the speaker and the environment. Based on these three factors, the writer suggests three improving strategies:1) strengthening training to improve interpreters’bilingual ability, especially the ability of public speech; 2) making adequate preparation before interpreting; 3) developing the adaptability to changes. The writer hopes that the paper could be of reference for those interpreting beginners.
