A Project Report On The Translation Of Measures Of Jiangsu Province On Administration Of Construction Project Occupation Of Water Areas

This report is written based on the translation project of Measures ofJiangsu Province on Administration of Construction Project Occupation of Water Areas and combined with the study of the English version of the Water Law of the People’s Republic of China and relevant laws and regulations. The author aims to analyze the translation process and summarize the general law of translating legislative texts. Measures of Jiangsu Province on Administration of Construction Project Occupation of Water Areas is a typical legislative text, which features selecting professional words, the frequent use of long and complicated sentences, rigorous logic and formal writing style. The translation project is of strong practical significance as it covers interdisciplinary knowledge, including legal knowledge, professional knowledge in the field of water conservancy and relevant translation theories.The author participated in the trial translation of the Measures of Jiangsu Province on Administration of Construction Project Occupation of Water Areas as the tutor of the author undertook the translation work assigned by the Legal Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government. Before starting the translation project, with acquired knowledge and reference to the relevant parallel texts, the author studied the source text and pre-processed the text carefully. During the translation process, under the guidance of translation principles of legislative texts, the author completes the translation project with the help of Trados, Acrocheck and other translation tools. The study shows:in legal translation, the most important thing is the functional equivalence, and "accuracy", "consistency" and "standardization" are primary principles. Therefore, the author adopted various methods to realize the equivalence of legal function between the source text and the target text. In addition, the use of CAT tools and the study of parallel texts in doing legal translation greatly improve the efficiency and the quality of the output.
