With the development of economy and globalization, interpretation has become more and more important in international exchanges and culture communications. Therefore, the studies of interpretation have got more attention recent years. Although researchers home and abroad have done great work on interpretation, most themes of interpretation studies are about interpreting skills, interpreting teaching techniques, interpreting practice and material. In these prior studies, researchers tend to summarize ways to improve interpreting performance. However, there are few studies related to common illusions interpreters have. And fewer can give out theoretical explanations and suggestions for these illusions. Redundancy is a research topic related to this kind of illusions, which needs great attention and more studies. Based on the interests in redundancy as well as interpretation theory studies, the thesis gives an analysis and explanation about redundancy in Chinese-English consecutive interpretation with the application of information theory, Le Modele Interpretatif especially the famous Triangular Model, Nida’s equivalence theory of translation as well as contrastive linguistics. The thesis has conducted an experimental research for six C-E CI and analyzed all the texts of recordings. In this way, the author tends to find out the potential relation between redundancies with C-E CI, and tries to answer the following questions from multiple perspectives:1) Is there any redundancy in C-E CI?2) If there is, what are the major categories and their frequency?3) Theoretically, what are the factors that cause redundancy in C-E CI? What’s the influence? The author has conducted an experiment with34subjects, who are graduate and postgraduate students of Dalian University of Technology. In the experiment and the thesis, redundancy and their performance of C-E CI are set as variables. After a descriptive statistical analysis as well as a qualitative analysis on experimental results, the thesis has got following conclusions:there are quite amount of redundancies in C-E CI; some of the redundancies have negative influence on C-E CI. The thesis complies with the original design of the experiment and also brings some useful suggestions to tackle redundancy in C-E CI.
