For a long time, death has been a very taboo topic. Our education has beenavoiding this sensitive topic. Since the word "life education" has been proposed, itdeveloped rapidly in the global. Death education as an integral part of life education,and gradually been seriously.Facing the serious social problems, the implement of death education is veryurgent. Studies have shown that children over3years old can accept death well andhave different degrees of understanding. We should not ignore this demand forknowledge. Instead, we can respond it in a positive way. In our society childrenhave not received death education. This paper will fill the vacancy in picture booksabout death education.This paper studies on death education theme in children’s picture books.Through the survey on circulation, sales volume and award-winning in picturebooks, clarify the prospects of children’s death education picture books market.Under the perspective of children’s understanding of death, and combined withKane’s research on "death of the child cognition" and Nagy’s study on "death ofchildren aged3-12cognitive development phase", this paper analysis the reflectionof death education in the educational picture books; studies their educationalfunction; discusses their rationality under educational and psychological view;summarizes their features on art and themes. Though the study, this paper willprovide a powerful theoretical basis for the creation of picture books on deatheducation theme.The creation of picture book will base on the understanding of death among5-9years old children. According to the phenomenon and characteristics of death,the value of life and children’s understanding for the pictures, design a deathseducation theme picture books for this age of children suitably. Death Education is still very weak under the current education system, andalso not acceptable in society. Though the study and creation, I hope to contributemy power on death education, look for the new way on death education from theperspective of children’s picture books. Though the picture books on the theme ofdeath education, I hope children can understand death more, reduce the fear ofdeath and sense the value of life.
