On The C-E Foreign Affair Interpreting From The Perspective Of Skopostheorie

With the globalization of politics, economy and culture, international exchange is becoming increasingly frequent. China has exerted growing influence in the world with its foreign exchange entering a stage of unprecedented prosperity. Under these circumstances, foreign affair interpreting is becoming more and more important. Foreign affair interpreting, which involves every aspect of foreign exchange, requires interpreters to be versed in the translation methods and skills, so as to ensure smooth exchange of both sides and safeguard national interests, maintain its dignity and improve its image. Therefore, it’s very necessary to conduct research on Chinese English foreign affair interpreting.In 2014, the author of this paper was engaged in a three-day foreign affair interpreting for "2014 World Basketball Star Game in the Spring City by the Willow Bank" in Hubei Province. Meanwhile, interpretation practices were conducted on several paragraphs of the "Address at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2014 by Premier Li Keqiang" and "Speech at the Indian Council on World Affairs by President Xi Jinping" in 2014. The research in this paper is based on these actual interpretation practices. From the perspective of German functionalist Skopostheorie, in the present paper preparation before interpretation, interpretation process and work after interpretation are introduced based on my actual interpretation practices. Besides, methods for C-E foreign affair interpreting are proposed on the basis of Skopostheorie. It is hoped that the present study can shed some helpful insight into the interpretation of foreign affairs.
