A Quantitative Study Of Particles In Qingpingshantang Huaben

As Qingpingshantang Huaben is the earliest known case of scripts for story-telling, it’s the important language materials for study. Because of its strong features of spoken language, Qingpingshantang Huaben has high value for the study of Early Modern Chinese. However, there are no comprehensive and systematic studies for particle system in Qingpingshantang Huaben.This paper makes exhaustive analysis on the four kinds of particles in Qingpingshantang Huaben, including aspect particles, structural particles, modal particles and other particles. It takes the quantitative method and the qualitative method to make a thorough inquiry on particle system in Qingpingshantang Huaben.This full paper can be divided into seven major parts: “Introduction” section describes the value of Qingpingshantang Huaben, the previous research of Qingpingshantang Huaben and Early Modern Chinese particles. And it also gives the significance of the topic and the composition methods. In chapterⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ, we make a comprehensive description and a systematic study on every member of aspect particles, structural particles, modal particles and the other particles on grammatical meaning and syntactic format. In chapterⅤ, we make a diachronic comparison among Zutangji, Qingpingshantang Huaben and Qingyezhong to explore the development and evolution of particles. “Conclusion” section is a summary of this full paper with a view of the basic profile of particle system in Qingpingshantang Huaben.
