This is a project report on Quantitative Corpus Linguistics with R, the third chapter of which is chosen as the original text of this report. This chapter not only introduces some basic concepts of R, but also makes a more detailed introduction of some important data structures with examples, such as vectors, factors, data frames, lists, regular expressions and so on. Due to the fact that the original text belongs to technical texts, the original text is featured with a great number of technical terms, nominalized structures, non-finite verbs and long sentences, which also contribute to the most important and difficult part of this project. Theoretically, the translator adopts the skopos theory as a guide. Skopos theory holds that translating is a purposeful communicative human activity. Skopos rule is the primary one of the three rules which includes skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. From the project, it is found that full preparations, including the background information of a certain field and the special meaning of a word in a certain field, must be made before translating as to EST translation. Besides, translators should bear in mind that EST has its own features. Therefore, during the translation, translators should always take the stylistic awareness into consideration.
