This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the second chapter ofTranslation Criticism---The Potentials and Limitations by Katharina Reiss. The fourthpart of Chapter Two is concerned with the important role of extra-linguisticdeterminants in the translation process, which includes seven factors: immediatesituation, subject matter, time factor, place factor, audience factor, speaker factor, andaffective implications.Objective translation criticism must fully consider thetranslation of above factors of extra-linguistic determinants.In the report, the author firstly introduces the project background, projectobjectives, and the project significance.The second part describes Katharina Reiss,author of the book Translation Criticism---The Potentials and Limitations, as well asthe original version and main content.The third part introduces the theory used in thetranslation process and preparation work. The fourth part mainly discusses somedifficulties in the process of translation and some translation methods. In this section,some examples will be illustrated to explain the techniques used in translation.Thefifth part is the summary of this translation report, which mainly talks about theexperience,lessons and some problems to be solved in the future.
