| The thesis is composed of the source text of Unwinding Anxiety: New Science Shows How to Break the Cycles of Worry and Fear to Heal Your Mind(Introduction and Part 2),its Chinese version and a report on the translation.“Introduction” describes the author’s writing experience and introduces the hot issue of anxiety from a scientific perspective,aiming to pave the way for explaining in the following parts the approaches to getting rid of anxiety in a scientific way.“Part 2” consists of Chapters 10 to 14,and focuses on the whole process of updating the brain’s reward value,including how the brain makes decisions,how to stop thinking as illustrated by Dave’s story,how to learn and grow from the past experiences and how long it takes to change a habit.And the reflections on Dana Small’s chocolate experiment are also given in Part 2.Being aware that people are caught in a variety of anxieties in their daily life in this fast-changing world,the translator provides the Chinese version of the source text for two purposes: giving more information for the public to help them break the cycles of worry and fear and offering more up-to-date reference materials for domestic researchers.In addition to introducing the source text,the translation report describes the translation motivation and analyzes the linguistic features and text types of the source text.Examples are cited to illustrate how the translator applies Communicative Translation Theory to practice at the lexical,syntactical and textual levels respectively after a brief introduction to that theory is made.Specifically speaking,at the word level,the translator tries to ensure the accuracy of terms and proper nouns and enhance the readability of the target texts;at the sentence level,he endeavors to produce shorter and easier-to-understand structures,reorder the sentence parts in order to organize the ideas logically,and express the grammatical connotations of some special sentences;and at the document level,he resorts to various means to improve the textual cohesion on the one hand and convey the style of the original on the other. |
