China is the home to world-famous natural sceneries, long history and splendidculture. Tibet is the most representative member in this big house. After taking a tripin Tibet, foreign visitors understand and appreciate Tibetan culture, which has in turna huge impact on the development of tourism in Tibet. Meanwhile, more and moreforeign tourists visit Tibet. In order to attract more foreign tourists and promote theexchange of Tibet, Tibet should not only sell out tourist scenic spots, but increase thetranslation quality of the text on Tibet tourism.This paper attempts to explore the translation strategies of the text on Tibettourism from Skopos theory. Skopos theory takes readers as the core of translation,claiming that translators should convey the cultural information in source textsaccording to the purpose of translation. Skopos theory focuses on the purposes andfunctions of translation; therefore, it is an operational and instructive guideline of thetourism translation.With the translation cases of Tibet’s tourism texts, the author introduces severaltranslation strategies in the hope of helping the tourism translation to attain a betterpromotional and communicative effect. The author expects to cultivate cross-culturalawareness to effectively spread Tibet’s tourism culture and better China’sinternational image.
