Social music education refers to music education besides school music education andhome music education. It mainly face to the children. It has been more than thirty since thereform and opening-up in China,and the rapid social development puts forward higherdemands on the cultivation of the talent. The normative,unified and planned school musiceducation cannot satisfy the needs of students’ individual development. As the supplementoutside the school for the children, social music education institutions have rich teachingcontents, targeted teaching plans, and more to be able to reflect the subjective initiative ofchildren. Therefore, it reaches the booming development, and becomes more and moreimportant in the social life.This paper overviews the children’s social music education first, and summarizes itsexistence forms, teaching characteristics, teaching contents and teaching value. Then, it startswith the actuality of three social music education institutions in Changchun. By interviewingthe head of teaching institution, taking the questionnaires with teachers, the paper gets theresearch data, then analysis and contrast the actuality of Changchun children’s social musiceducation, thus find the existing problems. Then the paper raises the improvement suggestionsfrom the policy, teachers, teaching methods and evaluation. At last, the paper gets theconclusion that Children’s social music education should be based on aesthetic standards, payattention to the noumenon of music, make children in social teaching institutions interested intraining as the main purpose, and take aesthetic as the main means, in order to finally get theall-round development of people.
