Xia Yan as a translator, he attached great importance to the acceptance of foreignliterature, and put them into Chinese literature through translation. His translationsworks included a wide range of subjects, from literature, art, culture, and social sciences,etc. His translation activities not only let the Chinese people have a better understandingabout the foreign literature, but also linked the Chinese literature with foreign literatureclosely.His translations had a positive and wide social influence at that time,and maderemarkable achievements,especially during the Anti Japanese war was at a stalemateperiod,he translated Tatsuzo Ishikawa’s novel "Living Soldier", the Japanese anti warwriter LuDigen’s three-act play "three brothers",and"enemy array Diaries" whichcompiled with TianHan,these three works could be said to be very timely with thenational anti-war of anti-Japanese propaganda,they inspired and couraged our nationalto fight the anti-Japanese war,also beat the enemy’s arrogance.Xia Yan embarked ontranslating,were not only accidental,but also inevitable. Xia Yan specializes inengineering, but he had a great interested in literary,he tried to translate KikuchiHiroshi’s "drama studies" while he studying in Japan.
