On ESP Teaching Based On Need Analysis

Because of constant communication with the world, the English used in China is no longer confined to daily communication. Under this globalized circumstances, the demands for the ESP are much higher than before, therefore there is a tendency to reform and develop ESP teaching and learning in order to keep the pace with times and meet the needs of society in ESP specialists.The author conducts the study in his college which is a college for civil aviation. The professional skills and English for Civil Aviation Business are so important. The study is carried out based on the ESP and needs analysis theories, and tries to analyze the needs of students, teachers, teaching process, textbooks, assessment and enterprises so as to explore the improvement strategies in detail. It is hoped that the result will be useful to similar courses studies in practical field.From the study, we can conclude the students’need analysis based on interest, real needs and the use of ESP in real situations. Teachers’ needs lie in supplanting specialized knowledge, after-work training and communication with the professionals. In textbooks, rich materials should be provided with reality, utility and perceptiveness. In the classroom teaching, teacher-centered mode should be avoided and interactive activities should be put into practice with mock situations and group discussions. In the assessment, multivariate evaluation in different aspects should be provided through the period of learning. Meanwhile, constant contact with companies, such as regular communications with graduates and return visits are essential, in order to provide qualified talents.Finally, the author puts forward the result, findings and enlightenments, which are based on the theories and practical studies. Meanwhile, this part makes a discussion on the strategies to provide the directions for further studies in this field.
