In the new era,China’s strategy to become a power in civil aviation puts forward new and higher requirements for the translation of civil aviation literature. The literature of this kind is featured with normative format, accurate language and rigorous writing, and the use of vocabulary is inconsistent with Chinese idioms. This report chooses National Plan for Civil Aviation Human Factors as the source text, and describes the entire translation process into three parts: preparation before translation, translation implementation and revision. On the basis of the contrasts between English and Chinese, the usage of words in particular, under the guidance of Catford’s theory of translation shift, typical cases are selected to study.By comparing and analyzing the effects of common lexical shifts on translation, the necessity of shift is expounded in depth, and feasible methods are explored. The conclusion shows that lexical shift is helpful to improve the translation quality of civil aviation literature, making the target text more accurate and smooth. This report is of research value in translation, and can offer something useful to study civil aviation, expanding the breadth and depth of civil aviation literature translation.
