With the improvement of economy and the enhancement of national cohesion in ournation, the interaction and communication with the foreign countries have been mountingwith each passing day. China is welcoming in the visitors and guests from all over theworld, with a fresh and new condition. More and more foreigners come to China forfurthering their studies, doing business or spending their holidays which make China’sservice industry prosper. Hospitality industry is the backbone of service industry. Morehotels have put forward the bi-lingual publicity materials in order to adapt to the currentsituation, meet the requirement of the customers and attract much more foreign guests.Hotel brochure is the most necessary material to introduce the service, facilities andcharacteristics of the hotel which is the main approach for the customers to learn about thehotel. As the representative of the hotel, the accurate and reasonable publicity materials canget guests acquainted with the reality of the hotel effectively. Meanwhile, it plays animportant role in promote the hotel’s image and increase the hotel occupancy rate.However, the author finds that the brochures used to communicate with and attractcustomers translated into different levels. The condition of Chinese to English translation isdepressing and it has a bad influence on the desired result.This thesis talks about the problems exist in the C-E translation of hotel brochuresfrom the perspective of Skopos Theory. The whole article consists of five parts. In the firstchapter, the author comes up with the research background, the research meaning and theproblems to be solved, at the same time, the research methodology and data collection areintroduced as well. Chapter two is the literature review, the author recalls the traditionaltranslation theory, and then summarizes the development of Skopos Theory briefly,introduces the principles of it in detail, along with the discussion of the contribution ofSkopos Theory to China’s translation studies. In chapter three, the author emphasizes onthe analysis of the features and linguistic characters of the hotel brochures. Considered theerrors and reasons of the hotel brochures’ translation described in the chapter four, theauthor proposes the correct and sound translation strategies. The last part is the conclusion, in this section, the author generalizes the whole article and points out the limitation of thethesis.The author holds the idea that much attention should be attached to the Chinese toEnglish translation of hotel brochures, because of the current situation of the hotelbrochure’ translation and its economic effectiveness. As a result, the author does theresearch from the angle of Skopos Theory in the translation of hotel brochures. Throughthe detailed analysis of Skopos Theory, and under the guidance of it, the practicaldifficulties encountered by the translators can be overwhelmed gradually.
