| Based on translation of Major Scenic Spot Construction Projects of Zhangye City, Zhangye DanxiaLandform, Qilian Jade Culture Industrial Park, Ganzhou Prefecture, Zhangye National Wetland Park and YanzhiMountain Forest Park, the author attempts to make an introduction, research and summary of the wholetranslation process. This report is made up of six parts, namely, introduction, task description, translationpreparation, translation process, quality control and the conclusion. The first part mainly deals with the research background, the purpose and significance of the present report. The second part focuses on a general description of the task including the client’s specific requirements, sourcetext description, the type and characteristics of source text. As for translation preparation, guided by a generaltranslation plan, the author finds out the theoretical basis of translation practice according to source text analysis, which also determines the selection of translation methods. The core part of the report is case analysis mentionedin translation process. On the basis of the material of source text and target text and under the guidance of PeterNewmark’ text theory, the author suggests some translation methods.1) For the names of scenic spots, literaltranslation and transliteration plus annotation are adopted.2) Considering de-familiarization of some terms inancient times, the author applies amplification by notes to make them better known to foreign tourists.3)Tosimplify target text expressions and clearly convey messages, Chinese four-character structure is dealt with, bymeans of omission.4) Free translation is used to translate classic Chinese poetry.5)In order to clearly reflectsemantic hierarchy, combination is applied to solve the problem of long sentence translation. Quality control cansuccessfully be conducted, dependent on the three aspects: strict requirements for translators, scientifictranslation procedures and quality assessment. The last part is the translation summary, the reflection concerningthe major drawbacks in translation and in turn, some suggestions and implications for translation are providedaccordingly. |
