| This is a report on my translation project. The source text is excerpted out ofFACILITATING SEVEN WAYS OF LEARNING-A Resource for More Purposeful, Effective,and Enjoyable College Teaching, a monograph on the teaching and learning of highereducation, including FOREWORD, PREFACE and a portion of Chapter One of PART ONE.This report mainly focuses on the process of translation, in which translation is regarded as aprocess of solving problems, as a process of writing, and as an action of communication.Challenges involved in translation and the translation strategies are listed in this report. Someuseful and practical translation ideas or experiences are accordingly summed up.FACILITATING SEVEN WAYS OF LEARNING, a monograph with high academic value,was first published by Stylus Press (Stylus Publishing, LLC) in2013, written by James R.Davis and Bridget D. Arend, who start this book with a discussion of the need for a paradigmshift about the way we teach and learn in higher education. It is representative of the forefrontof higher education nowadays. The book is rich in actual cases for each way of learning, eachattached with valuable case analysis and evaluation of them. The dominant characteristics ofthe book are: it creatively proposes seven ways of learning for college teaching in PARTTWO, which provides high practical value for teaching and learning of higher education.The report is mainly composed of four parts. The introduction is contained in the firstpart. It chiefly covers the rationale of selecting this translation project, including its sourceand significance, introduction to the works, to the authors, to the task, to the E-C translationof higher education monograph, and to the theoretical framework. The second part centers onthe process description. It consists of pre-translation preparation, process of translation andtask analysis, mainly illustrating the general translation objective, criteria and strategies,providing the overall translation framework for the following translation task. The third partcovers difficulties and strategies during translation. It is a core part, based on the translationprocess, which is to illustrate the main translation skills, principles, strategies, and thepossible problems through specific case studies, combined with the related translation ideas ortheories, aiming to offering a practical translation experience. Finally, the author made effortsto make an analysis of translation on the lexical level, on the syntactic level and on the textuallevel and the like by the translation methods of amplification, omission, conversion, domestication, restructuring and etc. The fourth part conclusion is the reflections on thetranslation experience. |
