The text of this translation report is from the first four chapters of Online Teaching and Learning in Higher Education during COVID-19: International Perspectives and Experiences. This book focuses on the opportunities and challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic to online teaching and learning in higher education worldwide. The source text pertains to academic text in which the research results of many scholars on the topic of online teaching and learning of higher education are collected in the form of essays. This provides a good platform for scholars to express their views, and the research results in the book have certain reference value for online teaching and learning study. In addition, there is no Chinese version of this book at home and abroad so far,so it is of certain reference significance for translator to choose this book as the source text.In the process of translation, the translator found that accurately expressing the meaning of sentences(especially long sentences)was a major difficulty. Therefore, this report focuses on the translation of long sentences in the source text.Based on the communicative translation theory, and drawing on the experience of previous translators on long sentences, the translator aims to analyze the translation of long sentences from the perspectives of reversing, division, amplification, sequencing, embedding, and restructuring respectively. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter one provides an introduction to the task background, task significance, and report structure.Chapter two focuses on the content and features of the source text.Chapter three describes the pre-translation preparation,while-translation process, and post-translation correction.Chapter four is case analysis,in which the translator discusses the translation of three different types of long sentences under the guidance of communicative translation.Chapter five presents the translator’s summary of her translation practice.Through this translation practice, the translator not only gains a deeper understanding of the linguistic features of academic text, but also has a better command of the translation of long sentences under the guidance of communicative translation theory and related translation skills. Moreover, the translator hopes the report will serve as a reference for other translators regarding the translation of academic text, especially the translation of long sentences.
