The source text of this translation report are Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 from the book Global Perspectives on Teaching Excellence: A new era for higher education, edited by Christine Broughan,Graham Steventon and Lynn Clouder. This timely book explores the definition of teaching excellence from a variety of perspectives of international authors. It will enlighten readers to understand the complex terrain in which teaching excellence is foregrounded, and a number of key issues facing the future of global higher education is highlighted.Due to the great differences between English and Chinese, the translator should firstly adopt corresponding translation skills and strategies for translation difficulties, such as conversion, omission, and restructuring etc,so as to achieve equivalence between the two languages under the basis of functional equivalence theory.Among them, the translation of complex sentences is the key and most difficult part in the whole translation process, which requires careful analyses by the translator.Meanwhile, the translator also realizes that good translation requires not only a solid theoretical foundation, but also an in-depth and detailed analysis of the source text. For example, the terminologies appearing in the source text require the translator’s broad knowledge of the field of teaching excellence.Lastly, the translator should examine the difficult points after the completion of the translation to reduce unnecessary mistakes so as to improve the quality of the translation.
