This paper is a translation report. The original text of the translation project is an excerptfrom the overview of Trade and Development Report,2013, which was issued by the UnitedNations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held in Xiamen at the end of2013.The original text is about the current development situation and prospects of the worldeconomy, and put forward a series of suggestions on recovering and developing the globaleconomy, particularly on how to make better use of the potential in developing countries.This paper consists of four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction of the translation project, including the background,target and significance of the project.The second chapter is the introduction of the original work’s background, including thepublisher, the main content, and the language characteristics of the original work, etc. The maincontent of the original text is the current situation and prospects of the global economy. The sourceof the original text is authoritative with rich information, which belongs to typical formal Englishstyle. It’s rigorous with a large sum of professional terms, appropriate language expression, and alarge number of long sentences and clauses.The third chapter is the introduction of the translation difficulties and the translation methods,including the difficulties occurred during the translation, the preparation before the translation,and the correlative translation methods and strategies. The frequently appeared technical terms inthe process of translation and the complex clauses are difficult. It’s also tough to ensure theidiomatic expression of Chinese. The author analyzed the difficulties occurred in the translationprocess and the specific solutions through the example in the original text. The main translationmethods and strategies used in the process are as followed: literal translation and free translation,domesticating translation and foreignizing translation, and omission translation and amplification translation.The fourth chapter is the summary of revelation, lessons gained from the translation andproblems that still need to be solved. Through this translation project, the author learned that solidknowledge of the bilingual language is the basic guarantee for the completion of the translationwork. And translators should flexibly consider different translation skills, and make use ofreference books, network and other resources to solve the difficulties. After completing thetranslation task, in order to accumulate experience in translation, the author also needs to analyzethe difficulties in the translation process and concluded the experiences. The author deeplyrealized that steadfast attitude is the premise to do a good translation, and theory is the basis oftranslation. The author needs to improve the ability of analyzing discourse. In the analysis of thetranslation methods, the theoretical exposition is a little rough. So that the author needs to strengththe study of theories.
