This is a translation project report of Aid for Trade At A Glance 2015–Reducing Trade Costs for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth(Chapter 1). The text is an economic report contributed by World Trade Organization(WTO) and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD). The author selected Chapter 1 for translation and this chapter is contributed by WTO only and addresses the question of why trade costs matter for inclusive and sustainable growth. The chapter defines trade costs, argues that policies matter in reducing trade costs in the goods and services markets, illustrates the scale of the trade costs many developing countries must face, and shows that lowering trade costs means more trade and potentially higher incomes, particularly in developing countries. The translation report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the project background, objectives, significance and the structure of the translation report. The second chapter is about the analysis of the source text. The theoretical basis of the translation, translation difficulties, preparation work and methods are presented in the third chapter. The fourth chapter concludes with lessons, implication and unresolved problems in the translation report. The source text belongs to informative text and the translation is based on the communicative translation theory of Peter Newmark. This theory aims to convey the meaning of the source text instead of the forms.
