| With the development of modern English,noun phrases with premodifiers have become a common language phenomenon.It is rich in English expression and closer to the Chinese expression,as well as it improves the fluency of English and shortens the difference between the two languages.Noun phrases are playing a very important part in English-Chinese translation,the accuracy of whose translation directly affects the information transmission and the quality of the translated text.In English,noun phrases consisting of central nouns and multiple premodifiers are complex,diverse in composition,and flexible in location,which makes it difficult for English-Chinese translation.This thesis is a report based on the translation of the United States-Chile Free Trade Agreement and Peter Newmark’s translation theory,which focuses on the translation of English complex noun phrases.Free trade agreement is an informative text,which focuses on the accurate expression of information content.Therefore,in order to be able to convey the information of the agreement accurately,this thesis adopts the flexible translation strategy according to the structural characteristics of the noun phrase under the guidance of the semantic translation and communicative translation,especially the communicative translation.This thesis is made up of four parts,including an introduction to the translation task,the translation process,cases analysis and the final conclusion among which the cases analysis is the main body,exploring the feasibility of the translation strategy of English noun phrase with central nouns and multiple premodifiers,such as literal translation,inversion,amplication,semantic extension as well as combination based on the specific classification of noun phrase and specific categories of concrete structures. |
