Object: to study the distribution of TCM syndromes in amblyopia children; to observe the effect of western comprehensive medical therapy(control group)and that therapy combined with auricular-plaster therapy(experiment group) on treatment of amblyopia childrenMethod: 1. First, the main TCM types in children with amblyopia were determined after consulting documents and asking for related experts. Then clinical symptoms of 189 amblyopia children including general symptoms, tongue pictures, pulse conditions were objectively recorded by using the collection table self-designed on information of TCM syndromes of amblyopia, on the basis of which, a differentiation of TCM syndrome was made according to the demands of the subject. The main syndrome characteristics of each type were induced through the descriptive statistics analysis. The relationship between syndromes and age, sex, amblyopia type, amblyopia degree were investigated by the correlation tests.2. 40 amblyopia children were choosed and randomly divided into experimental group and control group following a random contrast principle in clinical practice. The cases of the two groups were equal. The control group were given the methods of occlusion, red light, brush-light and training of the epicritic visual training. The experiment group were given the methods of auricular-plaster therapy combining western medical comprehensive therapy. After four months later, the therapeutic efficacy about the disease and the syndromes were compared and analyzed .Result: 1. In the 189 amblyopia children, the cases due to deficiency syndrome of liver and kidney were the most (69.3%), the cases suffering from the weakness of the spleen and the stomach were the second(24.9%), the cases with deficiency of spleen and kidney were the least(5.8%). The difference of the syndrome distribution in amblyopia children of different degrees had significant meaning(P < 0.05).2. In experiment group there were 36 eyes, 11 eyes were almost fully cured, 23 eyes were improved, 2 eyes failed to respond to any medical treatment. The total efficacy was 94.4%. In control group, there were 37 eyes, 10 eyes were almost fully cured, 25 eyes were improved and 2 eyes failed to respond to any medical treatment. The total efficacy rate was 94.6%. There were no significant difference between the two groups(P> 0.05). But thechanges of the disease mark and the total mark of disease and syndrome between the twogroups has significant difference(P < 0.05).Conclusion: 1. The syndrome distribution had no significant correlation with age, sex, andamblyopia type, but most of the amblyopia children with deficiency of spleen and kidneybelonged to moderate or serious amblyopia.2. The curative effects to improve visual acuity were similar in the two groups. But theexperiment group was better than the control group in improving the syndrome mark andthe total mark of disease and syndrome.
