ObjectiveTo investigate the associations between alcohol consumption and gout risk.MethodsWe identified 10 studies and applied meta-analysis, meta-regression, dose-response analysis and subgroup analysis to obtain available evidence.ResultsThe results indicated that alcohol consumption increased gout risk (pooled OR=2.34; 95%CI:1.97-2.79). The results of dose-response analysis indicated that drinking more than 1 drink per day (about 15g/d) increased the risk of gout with statistical significance. Subgroup analysis showed the pooled OR (95%C1) was 1.73(1.28 2.33) for beer,1.58(1.301.93) for spirits and 1.27(0.99-1.63) for wine.ConclusionsDrinkers have higher risk of gout attacks. Drinking more than one drink per day increased gout risk obviously. The risk efficacy of beer is larger than spirits, while wine had no effect on gout risk.
