This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter presented on the current state of Capparis masaikai Levl research. The second chapter is a review about the progress on the study of plant resources as natural sweeteners. The third chapter described chemical constituents on the seeds and the seed coats of Capparis masaikai Levl. Chapter four dealed with the isolation and determination of the chemical constituents of Trigonostemon.lii Y. T. Chang. The summary and discussion of the thesis are made in the last chapter. The genus of Capparis (Capparaceae) is a genus of about 250-400 species, which mainly distributed in the tropical and subtropical arid regions of Americas, a few grown on the temperate zone. In our country, it possess 32 species and mainly distributed in Taiwan and southwest. Capparis masaikai Levl is a typical precious endangered plant of China and rich in natural sweet proteins (Mabinlin). Its seeds have many beneficial effectives such as heat-clearing and detoxicating, moistening lung, dispelling wind and heat, midwifery. On the early stage, our group’s systematical chemical investigation on the shells and seeds of Capparis masaikai by led to the discovery of an indole alkaloid, methyl 2-methylsulfinyl-6-methoxy-3-indolecarbonate. However, only 4 compounds were isolated from its seeds. In order to further study the phenomenon "Sweet water effect" on Capparis masaikai Levl, we isolated compounds from Capparis masaikai Levl, hope it could help to explain the mechanism of the phenomenon. By modern and technology separation,23 compounds were isolated from the fruits of Capparis masaikai Levl, including alkaloids, nucleosides, monosaccharides, lignans, amino acids, andphenolic compounds. Among them, compounds l-methoxy-3-indoIeformic acid(1), O’-ethyl-l-β-D-arabinofuranosyluracil (3),1-β-D-psicofuranosyluracil (7), (R)-3-Hydroxy-7-methoxychroman-4-one (12) and p-methoxyacetophenone (14) are new natural products. Compounds psicofuranine (5), Tyrosine (11), Pandanusphenol B (13) and Tyrosol (18) are the first reported from genus Capparis. Compounds adenosine (4), ethyl β-D-fructofuranoside(6), vanillin (9), Medioresinol (20), (+)-pinoresinol(15), Syringaresinol (19), (+)-epinoresinol (22) were isolated from this plant for the first time.Trigonostemon includes about 50 species, belongs to the family of Euphorbiaceae, most of them are distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and ten species being endemic to South China. Trigonostemon. lii is a common folk medicinal plants of China and Thailand, which have many beneficial effectives such as anticorrosive, sterilization, anti-inflammatory, detoxification, anti-diarrhea effect and so on. It has attracted considerable attention as rich source of new diterpenoids, alkaloids, phenanthrenes, and other kinds of compounds, with diverse structures and significant biological activities. In our continuing investigation on the chemical constitutes from Trigonostemon lii Y. T. Chang, a new carboline alkaloid, Trifiline D (1) and a new degraded diterpenoid, Trigoxyphin X (4). Compound 1 exhibited weak inhibitory activity against MCF-7, A-549, MGC-803 and COLO-205, Trigoxyphin X(4) and Loganin (5) were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against Hela, A-549, MGC-803 cell line.
